Gerry Rafferty/Stealers Wheel

So, a week or so ago, I learned that Gerry Rafferty was not only in the '70s band Stealers Wheel... but he was the lead-singer on their well-known hit, "Stuck in the Middle with You".

For some reason, this info has completely flipped my proverbial gasket.

Being a big-time music buff, a huge fan of 1970s pop music, AND a fan of both Gerry Rafferty and Stealers Wheel, I cannot imagine how a tidbit like this has managed to escape my notice for all these years.

This is precisely how I felt when I learned that Steve Winwood was in Traffic.

Oh well!

I know exactly how you feel. I have just discovered today that Gerry Rafferty was the lead singer on Stuck In The Middle With You and it's really kind of blown my mind. I've always loved that song, and I was once seriously hooked on Baker Street, but it never occurred to me there might be any connection between them.

What I also find really strange is that watching the videos for both songs now, I can't see or hear the slightest resemblance in voice or appearance between the singers. I keep wondering whether can really be the same Gerry Rafferty. What happened to all his early character and humour, and that wonky nose? And how did his voice change so much? It's mysterious!

Anyway I'm glad that someone else was surprised about this once too. :-)

Actually on further investigation I think I may have confused Joe Egan and Gerry Rafferty in the Stealers Wheel video for SITMWY. Joe gave a really great performance. I thought he was the lead singer.
