2009 World Figure Skating Championships
On Saturday evening, I attended the World Figure Skating Championships at Staples Center. My peeps D-Mo & J-Mo invited me to tag along with them, as they'd been before and knew how cool it was. (Get it??? "Cool"??? BWAHHAHAHAHAHA!) We saw the ladies' free skate.
ANYhoo, it was indeed SUPER cool. Very interesting to see such a wide range of skaters; you learn pretty quick what the difference is between a good skater and a great skater! One of the big differences is... the severity of the falls. The lower-ranked ladies REALLY ate the ice when they fell. One gal, Candice Didier of France, fell, slid clear across the ice and hit the boards FULL-ON. That was scary. The crowd went wild when she returned to the ice, just a few minutes after being helped off, in order to finish her program!
Yu-Na Kim of Korea took the gold medal quite handily, leaving everyone else in her ice-dust.

The Original Pantry
After many years of wanting to, I finally got the opportunity yesterday to eat at The Original Pantry in downtown L.A.! I dined with my pals D-Mo & J-Mo prior to our date at the Staples Center last night.
This place is a landmark. They pride themselves on never being closed and never being without a customer inside.
It's currently owned by former L.A. mayor and notable Irishman Richard Riordan

Madeline is ONE today!
Happy birthday, sweet Maddy Logelin! Or should I say... Feliz cumpleaños, since you are en El Méjico.
It's been lovely getting to know you and your papa this past year.
But now, I must go to your Daddy's blog and look at all your pretty pictures! And after that I'm gonna pop in over at your mama's Foundation and donate $24 in your honor. xoxoxoxoxo!

King Shag!
This is the yummiest, cheapest NZ sauv blanc I've ever had. Emphasis on cheapest.
Just sayin'.
For the record, tho, my fave NZ sauv blanc is Brancott. Always has been, always will be.

Mysterious Benefactor!
My child seems to have a mysterious benefactor! Imagine his surprise when, out of the blue, he received a FEDEX box full of Cartoon Network SWAG!!! Lord have mercy, I thought the child would PLOTZ.
Thank you, mysterious stranger! Our family will think of your kindness everytime we enjoy the fine programming offered by Cartoon Network. Or, whenever Schnitzel sez, "RADDA RADDA RADDA"!

Dinner with LFarm in the Atwater
I had the distinct privilege of dining on Friday evening with the beautiful internet sensation, Lauren Farmer. We opted to go to Canelé, a delightful establishment in the Atwater Village section of Los Angeles. It was just the kind of classy place you'd expect to find a couple of awesome brunettes such as ourselves.
As you can see from these photographs, Canelé is a lovely eatery in a beautiful section of the city. However, out front was this weird hobo in a plaid shirt from JCPenney (I know this because he showed me the tag inside while describing his 'vintage' hobo shirt in detail -- a common hallmark of the insane). He insisted on horning in on my photo session with Lauren.
After this I think he got Lauren to go to a concert with him, despite my protestations. (He was kinda cute for a hobo.)
Eat at Canelé if you can. Despite this zany blog post, in all seriousness -- THEIR. FOOD. IS. THE. BOMB.

Sunday in Silver Lake
The family and I decided we were overdue for an outing, so we opted to head over to the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles for some lunch, and spot of shopping at zany emporium Wacko.
For lunch, we chose House of Pies -- one of those cool old coffee shops that you always mean to visit, but never quite get around to...
It was a lovely day!

It's got *frizzante*
I'm havin' this *redonk* pinot grigio tonite and... it's got BUBBLES!!! Super num.
It's from Contadino, and is available at Trader Joe's for the *absurd* price of $4.99! It's relatively lo-alcohol, so it's easier on your wine-gut and doesn't get you quite so hammered. (Just sayin'.)
